  76. Keep an eye out for the IC-290H, often found on packet forsale lists, etc.
  77. It's a good radio, and is the size of a typical mobile. Handles SSB/CW/FM.
  78. The IC-275H is the same size as an IC-735, and the 735 is considered
  79. mobile capable by many.

  81. If any of the radio manufacturers could come out with a decent SSB/FM rig
  82. at a decent price, they'd sell a lot. The same for 6 meters!

  84. Oh, one other rig to look at: The Yaesu FT-290 Mk II is an unusual rig that
  85. can either be a QRP or a 20 watt mobile, and is as small as a mobile...

  111.      I have two Motorola HT-50's handhelds for sale. They transmit in the
  112. 460 Mhz range on hi and lo power. They have two channels and a plug on
  113. top for a speaker mike (~$80 from Motorola). Also included are two
  114. standard desk chargers. One radio has a new battery on it that has rarely
  115. been used. I'm trying to pay bills so get a good deal and respond NOW!

  147. I am considering going for my amateur licence soon, and was wondering if
  148. anyone on the echo knows of any circuits that have been published in the
  149. electronics/amateur magazines for a reasonably easy to build low power
  150. AM/SSB transmitter (something like 15 or 20 watts, to build up while studying
  151. for the course). Solid state would be preferable to valves.

  178. I have an IC-260. It is definately all-mode and useful for mobile (10W),
  179. however it has very brain-dead memory features (no useful memories), so
  180. it should be considered a VFO-only radio. As for the click-stop, I dis-
  181. like this "feature" also, so I went inside and removed the ball bearing
  182. out of which they make the click noise (look inside- it's obvious, and
  183. no other damage need be done when the ball is removed - and it is re-
  184. installable with needle-noise pliers). After doing this, the radio has
  185. the same basic feel as an IC-211 - you can zip right around the band in
  186. a hurry. I suspect you could run the radio mobile with the ball removed and
  187. as long as you are careful not to touch the freq. dial while in motion,
  188. there should be no problem (many HF mobile rigs behave this way).
